Sound Mirror (No.1) is an interactive installation and an instrument. It produces varying sounds based on an individual’s presence, movement, and proximity to the panel. It acts as an interface for an intimate self-examination and sonically mirrors an individual’s presence. There are two main electronic sensors on the panel; a movement sensor activates the sound when a presence has been detected, and an array of photocells senses the amount of light from the spotlight. The disruption caused by a body interrupting the light source to the photocells is translated into the tones and pitch of Sound Mirror: the less light that the photocells detect, a slower and deeper sound is produced.
